There are many issues that are facing the world right now. I have made it a major purpose in my life to make an impact on others by my community service. My personal mission has been working to prepare our youth to become productive members of our society. Below are the organizations that I have either started or support in order to fulfill my mission.

Please take the time to review the information. I would appreciate any assistance that you might be willing to give.

The Urban Pre-College Education Network

UPCENThe purpose of the Urban Pre-College Education Network is to provide a means of preparing the under-served population of minority high school students for a successful college experience.  The program is offered to high school juniors and seniors as a college preparatory program.  We will provide counseling to the potential college students.  Some of the workshops offered are:
  • Math SAT
  • Writing
  • College Fairs
  • Financial Aid
  • Time Management
  • Study-Skill Sessions
  • Lecture and Note Taking Techniques
  • Do’s & Don’ts of College Life

UPCEN meets twice a month at the Shrine of the Black Madonna Pan African Christian Church.  The program begins in September and ends in May. Visit UPCEN.org to view the Workshop Calendar for 2011-2012.

Let Us Make Man

As Black men who work every day in various capacities to serve the community for the greater good of humanity, we’ve come to the conclusion that our efforts are best served by uniting and working to provide an opportunity to educate the community on those areas that are critical to the Black family and, ultimately, to our survival. Naturally, those assembled come from various religious, social and cultural backgrounds.  However, we’ve set aside any and all differences in order to take on the Herculean task of uplifting our people and filling in gaps as necessary.

Thank You,
Melvyn R. Burrows
